Dear Reverend Moore,
In 2006 you sent me an e mail regarding the wedding I produced for NBC’s Today Show. You had mentioned that the
wedding was not a particularly well done wedding. Since I am recognized as an authority on weddings, I initially took offense
to that e mail. However, after looking back, I would have to agree with that assessment for one reason – time restraints.
On a live television show, time is of the essence. Because we only had fifteen minutes to put on a wedding, a few items had
to be eliminated from the ceremony. The Pastor we used was a Methodist Pastor that has done weddings for me in the past.
I was intrigued by the way you said that the wedding was done wrong because of the “Declaration Of Intent.”
After doing some research, I found out that what you said abo ut the “I Dos” is correct. However, the general
public is not aware of that and because the media – me included – have made the “I Dos” the defining
moment of a wedding, I won’t be changing the way I prepare a wedding or the way I advertise a wedding. I applaud you
for doing weddings correctly and I would have to agree that most clergy and most judicial personnel are not trained to do
weddings – they just pick it up.
In closing Reverend Moore I want to let you know that I bought a copy of your book and found it to be very informative.
Even though it is not a big publication like mine or many others, I can see that you put a lot of thought and hard work into
it.
Keep up the good work and maybe our
paths will cross someday.
Sincerely,
Martha Stewart
